Microsoft Hololens:
This was a lot cooler then I expected it to be. I was honestly the hololens to be
a lot bulkier and have wires sticking out of it and everything. But it was pretty streamlined. They
kinda reminded me of Geordi Laforge’s lenses from Star Trek. THe actual quality of the images in the
hololens astounded me. I expected rudimentary blue or green colors. It was gonna be very low detail,
I thought it would be all jittery, I also thought that if I got far away enough it would disappear or really
start to get jittery. But it massively exceeded all of my expectations.

They were demoing this 3d model of the solar system. All of the planets were moving and
the sun was rotating. I held the sun in my hands and it was incredible. The detail on all the
planets was immaculate. I took a close look at Jupiter and all of the various clouds in the
3d model were moving at different speeds. The color of each of the planets also shined through a lot.
I walked about 40 to 50 feet away and the solar system was still in the same spot and it was clearly in
view. The one problem I ran across was that if you get closer than about half an arm's length away
the image in front of you would disappear completely.

Overall the hololens surprised me. I can foresee many medical, scientific and creative
uses for this technology.

Other Uses 4:
So I went to the EMPAC event Other Uses 4. We were shown 3 films.
The first one was focusing on a young woman sitting in a hammock smoking a cigarette in the
nighttime. She then walked around and did some dancing. There was also a narration in the
background in a foreign language talking about natural disasters. Of the short films we were shown
I would say this is my favorite. Mainly based on the fact that there is a human subject that the
audience can attempt to read. I wanted to know what she was feeling what she was thinking.
She was a great model for this project.

The second film was basically just some videos of what I believe was an abandoned military base.
The shots were all very beautiful and there's one shot in particular of sunlight bleeding through leaves
flowing in the wind. Overall this film was visually stunning. But I didn’t get much about it.
There was really much to respond to except the environment. It was very devoid. All though one
could argue that is the point of the piece.

The final film just made me nauseous. It was a 4:3 aspect ratio video of some guys fishing and it
was shot with this weird mirror effect that made it look like there was 3 bodies of water on top of
eachother. I didn’t really see the point of it. It hurt my eyes. I wasn’t a fan.

Arts Center of the Capital Region:
I went and took a personal trip to the Arts Center of the Capital Region in downtown Troy. They had
two exhibits up. The first and main one was called: So It Would Seem. The secondary smaller one
was some art projects from a special needs program. I took pictures of some of the pieces on my
phone. The theme of So It Would Seem is essential things not being what they appear.
All of the pieces are essentially collages of things that don't fit together. I would say this exhibit
feels like a drug trip more than anything, things seem off, I attached my favorite piece to this
document. I actually really liked this exhibit, there were some really unique pieces.
There was a very realistic fake bird, to the point where I wonder if it was taxidermied. The best word
to describe this exhibit would be trippy.
